Summer will come ?????

Well, the start of this summer has been one for the books. In February, the coronavirus hit the US and by March put a real crimp in everyone's plans for the summer. We had reservations on AMTRAK for April 22 but had to change them because we were now under a "stay-at-home" restriction. Besides, who would want to travel on a train with a deadly virus going around. So here we sat, inside our home, only going out to get needed supplies and food which was another adventure in itself because the selves are getting bare of most items, especially toilet paper. Businesses started closing down and we couldn't go out to restaurants anymore so we started ordering take-out and cooking in. Even the clubhouse in our community closed and locked their doors. I couldn't play bingo, cards or games with friends because we all needed to stay at least six feet apart! Okay, so I have stuff to do at home, right? Well after cleaning every room in my house, playing on my computer and playing games on my ipod, I was getting bored and going through bingo withdraw. So I pulled out my cross-stitch and started doing that again. I even started playing on my Wii and exercising; and just when I was going to join a gym too. Thank goodness Jack had learned how to play a card game we call Frustration Rummy because now we play every day. He is getting better and is starting to win a few games. Actually, I love my house and staying home isn't all that bad for me; however, Jack is going stir-crazy. We can still walk around the community as long as we stay at least six feet away from everyone and now we were told to wear masks when you go out into public. We have gone to the store, armed with gloves and a mask. My girlfriend said she never thought she would be going into a bank, wearing a mask to ask for money and not worry about being arrested. Fortunately, we haven't heard of anyone getting sick in our community and some people are getting a little lacks following the CDC rules but not us. I don't know what I would do if I got the virus and gave it to my friends.

As I said, we had to change our plans for going north for the summer due to this virus but even worse, Mary and Gary, owners of the campground in Vermont, are here in Florida and can't leave. They too are under a "stay-at-home" order. Not only that but Vermont is also under the same order, as all of us are, and won't even let them go home. Some good news, by the end of April, they would now allow owners to go home to Vermont but they have to "quarantine" themselves for 14-days and can't take any reservations until June 15th. So I guess they will be able to leave in a few weeks.

Some good has come from all this isolation; I am cooking more now making some meals at home; I have started exercising; we've been reading more and binge watching our firetv stick, watching whole series in one or two days. We have also ordered more stuff on-line including groceries. The only thing is my "shopper" keeps texting me to make substitutions because what I ordered wasn't available. We even had to cancel all our doctor appointments, hair appointments, and of course restaurant visits. Thank goodness for the internet, cell phones and texts. I miss my family and friends but keeping in touch isn't a problem even if I can't see them in person. I sure hope this doesn't go on much longer. Fortunately, we are both in good health but my hair is getting longer and losing its color; the dreaded grey is creeping in or should I say out.

We're not alone in this and hopefully it will go away soon. It's not fun being isolated from everyone you care about but just think how you would feel if you contracted the virus and gave it to someone you love. So here we are staying away from family and friends until this thing runs it course and disappears. Hopefully, we will be able to go north by the end of May and enjoy the rest of our summer there. Even if we can go north, we too have to "quarantine" ourselves in our fifth-wheel for 14-days. Boy is that going to drive Jack crazy !!

In the meantime, make the best of your situation, stay safe by taking precautions, wearing your mask when you go outside your home, washing your hands when you return and please remember, be responsible and help to keep others healthy.

The one thing that isn't cancelled is HOPE. Pray for all the workers in the hospitals and those in essential services that are taking care of the rest of us through this unprecedented time.

Stay safe and healthy.
