Well we headed out again for the summer. Our trip on the train was MUCH better this year than last year. We left on time, had a decent ride, good dinner and actually arrived 39 minutes EARLY! BIG difference from last year. We drove from Lorton to my sister's house in New Jersey. We took two days driving into Vermont. We did pass several places that still had snow but the temperature was in the 60's so it was melting fast. That is just fine with me. We reserved a motel room in St. Johnsbury, Vermont for two nights because even though our fifth-wheel is in a campground there, we didn't know how much had to be done before we could stay in it. When we left we had to blow-out all the pipes, put in anti-freeze and spread peppermint oil everywhere, so we didn't know what it would smell like. But it turned out that the smell wasn't all that bad and hooking up and getting stuff done took less time than we thought.
When we arrived, three other 'seasonal' couples were here helping to open the campground for the season. It was supposed to rain all day the next day so we left the inside work and cleaned up around our site and helped Gary and others to clean up the rest. There is more work to be done outside because the river froze this winter and ice jams wiped out electric poles on five sites, three down from us, rutted out some of the road and downed a few trees. Good thing Gary has his own excavating business. The owners, Mary and Gary, treated everyone to dinner that night for helping, there were twelve of us; that's the kind of people they are.
We spent the next day cleaning up. I forgot one soap container in my bathroom and it froze and, when it thawed, was all over my counter.
Right now the river is higher than we've ever seen it and it's getting scary again. It has a way to go to get to us BUT! with the run-off of ice and snow upstream, who knows. AND it's raining again........
