Travels to Woodstock, Vermont

We took two days to do some sightseeing around the area. We drove to Woodstock, Vermont and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast right outside of town. It was a large old Victorian place that had been renovated into a B&B. Evelyn & Dave the owners couldn't have been nicer and they catered to our every wish. Evelyn did all the decorating and I think she did a really good job, the place is beautiful. We had a small room with a queen bed but it still had a Jacuzzi in it and a small porch. Every day between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm they had happy hour with beer, white or red wine. I told Evelyn I preferred the sweeter of the two wines and she gave me a glass of moscato. We were also given breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit cup, a homemade muffin and a choice of ham and eggs, an omelet or granola and homemade toasted bread and jam. It is a great place and I highly recommend it.

We walked around the town of Woodstock, VT.

We took a drive down to Rockingham, VT and stopped at the Quechee Gorge on the way. They call Quechee Gorge the Grand Canyon of Vermont but it's nothing like it as far as I'm concerned. Yes its 165 feet deep and is the deepest gorge in Vermont. It serves as a popular tourist attraction in Quechee State Park and can be viewed from the U.S. Route 4 bridge and from trails on both sides of the gorge. The Ottauquechee River flows through the bottom of the gorge. Rt. 4 goes right over it and it is a pretty sight.

We also stopped to see the Vermont Country Store. This place is an American catalog, retail, and e-commerce business based in Vermont with stores in Weston and Rockingham, Vermont. They are the old country store with creaking wood plank floors and old wood beams. They have everything from clothing to jams to candy to cheese and everything in between and the store in Weston has an ice cream stand and restaurant. It's fun walking around looking at the stuff, both modern and old fashion stuff you remember as a kid. They have a web page if you're interested: Vermont Country Store
