Tonight, we had our chili contest. Prizes for all those who made chili were small gift baskets from Maple Grove maple shop containing a box of pancake mix, a bottle of syrup and maple candy. The top winner would get a large gift basket with a box of pancake mix, three bottles of syrup, maple candy and other stuff I didn't see. There were nine people who made chili; three were seasonal campers; I didn't. Each pot was given a number. Mary had, in the past, put each in a different pot so no one would know who's pot it was, but this year, she didn't do that, she just asked that those who made chili, please not vote for their own. Mary, Carmen and I dished out the samples into small cups and everyone took one of each and cast their vote for the winners; one through nine. Mary supplied cheese, onions, hot sauces and sour cream to put on top after the taste testing was done. A few campers even brought desserts and corn bread. We had 24 people show up to taste test plus those who made chili.
When Mary counted up the votes, the top two were only 1 vote apart: #4 and #9. #4 won which was Brenda’s chili (a seasonal). It was made it with turkey and gluten free. She was really surprised and won the large gift basket.
After the votes were counted, everyone could go back and get more, and let me tell you, there wasn't much left. I personally liked #9 the most. The women who made it said she got it off the internet and the first time she ever made chili. Sherry, a camper who is here for three months, made #1, it was sweet. All were very good, but I combined all of them in one bowl and BOY, it was really good!
