So, since our last blog, we have been putting the campground back to normal. For weeks, the guys cleaned up debris, filled in washed out sites and roads, reburied the sewer tank and culvert to the cabin that popped up, and cleaned out the gardens. All the mud was removed, and the grass is growing back nicely. There were piles and piles of mud around the campground for weeks as Gary removed more than 40 dump trucks full. Now, he only has to put the finish layer on the rest of the road to be completely done. A few days after the highway department cleaned up the road and culvert outside the campground (cause of the mud slide), Gary had to fix the culvert again because it backed up again and reports of heavy rain were coming. The guys have also been helping with the property next door. They removed all the debris in front of the house, rescued the dump truck from falling into the ditch, filled and fixed the road around the garage, and dug out the pick-up truck that was sunk in two feet of mud. All that mud totally destroyed the dog run and covered by two to three feet of mud instead of the one foot we originally thought. Gary is working on removing or leveling all that mud now.
Among all the clean-up, we had our car repaired from the deer hit. They did a fantastic job and matched the color exactly. It's nice to have it back, but I didn't realize how anxiety hits you when driving on the highways now. Jack installed deer deterrents in the car; I hope they work. Covid-19 is not dead yet and several people in the campground had it. We thought we were lucky but after everyone else was negative, Jack got it. Go figure...All is good now and I stayed negative.
We had our last Paint & Sip. We painted a lighthouse on a round canvas. All of us did a great job and had a lot of fun.
We also had friends come up for a visit. For a week, we showed them some of the sights and really enjoyed their company. They were even able to see some of the leaves as they changed from green to yellow or orange. Peak should be around October 5th, but with the warm temperatures here and lots of rain, I'm not sure how vibrant the colors will be. We attended a church Thanksgiving Dinner last week with 22 other campers. The church supplied everything from turkey, gravy, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, several beverages and desserts. Everything was excellent and no one left hungry.
Well, that's about it for now. Life goes on in the campground and Mary and I are still winning at bingo. Summer is coming to an end and before you know it, we will be returning to Florida for the winter.
