For the past three weeks we have been getting stuff ready for this breakfast. The National Campground Association (campground owners/managers) visits campgrounds in one state each year and this year it's Vermont. One campground hosts the event while others provide breakfast, lunch or dinner during the two-day event. The members visit the campgrounds to see what they offer and to get ideas and suggestions to/from each other. The host campground asked Mary for help organizing the event and, Mary being Mary, volunteered to host a breakfast on the second day and helped with organizing the event. There were 60 members expected to attend. So, Mary has had us fixing-up and decorating the campground with mums, corn stalks and pumpkins. So now the campground looks like fall. It does look really nice. For two days, Mary was sewing table runners for the tables (16 of them) and I had the job of ironing the material for her to sew and ironing them after they were made. They were all fall colors and looked really nice when on the tables with a small mum on top.
Mary even bought lilies for the pond, but they weren't going to grow enough, so Jack (unknown to Mary) bought fake lilies and put them in the pond the night before the breakfast. Mary went down, looked at the pond and the only comment she made was "it looks pretty good". She actually thought the lilies were the live ones she put in. We put one over on her. The night before, we were down the pavilion cracking 260 eggs to make scrambled eggs and putting together six trays of French toast to be baked in the morning.
The next morning, (day of the breakfast), we were up and down at the pavilion at 7am to decorate the tables, set up the coffee, tea and juice table and set up all the other dishes and hot plates we needed for the meal at 9am. Mary has a large commercial Vulcan stove to cook the scrambled eggs, side grill to cook the sausage and bacon, and two ovens to bake the French toast. We also put out fruit and yogurt. Mary outdid herself and everything turned out great. 40 members showed up. The host campground manager introduced Mary and Gary, then Mary took over telling them about the campground and giving them a map so they could walk around. Gary was in his glory with all the people to talk to. Everyone really enjoyed the breakfast, including the six of us who helped. The owners were gone by 11:45am to go to another campground for lunch. That's when we (as workers) had the job of cleaning up everything. The nice part about cleaning up, we got to take home the leftovers! well, what was left, which wasn't much.
