Asian Lantern Festival
Central Florida Zoo, Sanford, FL
December 9, 2021
The Florida Central Zoo put on an Asian Lantern Festival this year and what a show. You walk about three quarters of a mile through the zoo looking at lanterns in the form of animals, flowers, plants all lit and some are even animated. It is beautiful. Once you get into the zoo, you could stay for as long as you wanted. It was definately worth a visit. Click on a picture to bring to full size and be sure to scroll down this page to see some videos.
A few of the outstanding animated items:
Angel's Wing - If you feel tired, take a moment to appreciate the fresh, unique, and poetic magic of the lights. Standing between the light wing of an angel, vanities will disappear.
Butterfly Tree - This natural phenomenon is in the American Montreal Pine Forest where there is a kind of pine tree whose bark is dark green or nearly dark black. Every autumn, numerous butterflies fly to this pine forest and stay on these black pine trees, all of which become colorful "butterfly trees". They do not fly away until the spring of the following year. No reasonable explanation for the mystery and remains the most bizarre biological phenomena in the world.
Rotating Lanterns - One of the eight symbols of Buddhism and is commonly used in Buddhist mass. These are refered to as the Eight Auspicious Symbols or the Buddhist Eight. Eight Kinds of wisdom; eye, ear, nose, tone, heart, body awareness and desire. I have no idea which is which.
